Our roots (history)
In 1865 Josef Zingerle "the Böckn" son bought the Messnerwirts property in Antholz. The new landlord is characterised as an active man. Apart from its activity as host and farmer he runs also an expanded wood trade. 1889 started Franz, the oldest one of the 18 children the follow-up of the Messnerwirt property. Franz, a very toured man, participated in different pilgrimage among other as well to Jerusalem. Finally he died of an illness, tightened during the Roman pilgrimage. Now the young son Anton takes care of the Messnerwirt in the Antholz, together with his wife Walburga. He expanded the hotel and established the new farming house'. Since 1990 is the next generation at work: Franz and Brigitte built the Messnerwirt in his current existence with constant modernization. Now they try together with their children (the fifth generation),to keep on the close ties and tradition between the farm and the inn.
The meaning of the name Messnerwirt
The name of the hotel Messnerwirt is obvious. For whom it would have been easier to take over the service of the sacristan in the close church of St. Walburg in Anterselva than for the owner of the Messnerwirt. The sacristan procured near the different services in the church as well the ringing of the bells in the morning at noon and in the evening. He did not miss also the weather ringing, if in the summer black clouds ascended in the sky and high thunderstorms threatened to destroy the harvest.
